Waste treatment plant 'could help improve contaminated land'

Planning applications have been submitted for a new waste treatment plant on the outskirts of Norwich that could be used to produce material that improves contaminated land or restore landfill sites.

The Norwich Evening News reports that the centre would be able to recover methane gas which could be used to generate electricity, as well as help with the aforementioned processes.

Based in Costessey, the new construction would be built alongside the Norfolk Environmental Waste Services, which resides in the Longwater Industrial Estate.

Rachel Jackson, the clerk at Costessey Parish Council, said: "The feeling within the parish was that they were very supportive of the proposal.

"I understand the design which received the most public admiration during that process was the one which has been submitted."

The openness of Sustainable Resource Management, the company behind the plant, is something that is pleasing the local community, she added.

Norwich City Council holds a register which includes an array of documents related to contaminated land sites in the area.
